Described by a 1,000 strong audience as “the best ever show” and undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights of Alderney Week. It’s amateur entertainment at its very best.

The “Rosebud” series of 3 silent black/white movies , all on one DVD.  Price:  £10

One of the greatest heroines of Alderney was ‘Rosebud’, a hard done by skivvy who chattered endlessly and forever ended up in trouble. From getting tied to the railway line, chased by the mad lighthouse keeper Doddy and stuck in an ice cream tricycle to being accused of murder, Rosebud was in the thick of it.

It’s twenty years since the first of these 3 hilarious silent movies was filmed, all on location on Alderney.

The first one, “Rosebud - The Girl From Casquets” won an award in Japan, of all places. Then “Rosebud & The Godfathers” followed two years later and finally “Rosebud & Murder On The Alderney Express”.

Written by our very own Liza Beresford, heroine creator of the Wombles and produced and directed by Ronnie Cairnduff, they starred the late John Arlott, another great hero, and Maggie Burridge as Rosebud. What a heroine she is as now head of Ormer School. Other island heroes were leading men Steve Collins and Charlie Worsley not to mention arch movie villain and Romeo Ray Parkin, who also ran Alderney Week for over 25 years.

To order, simply send your cheque and details to Alderney Week PO Box 138, Alderney GY9 3EY.  For off-island deliveries, please add £1 postage per total order.

All proceeds go to Alderney Week
