ROLL ON ALDERNEY WEEK 2008 : Provisional Programme of Events
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Alderney Week since the end of the War, and the Alderney Week Team is busy putting together a spectacular programme, details of which will be published as soon as we have been able to finalise the many different elements involved in organising these events.
And, in line with this year’s theme “Pure Magic”, expect nothing less!
We’ll bring you a number of exciting new events and we’ll re-introduce some of the old-time favourites in addition to the traditional events without which Alderney Week simply wouldn’t be Alderney Week as we know it.
All water-based events have had to be scheduled around tidal conditions and, at this stage we can already confirm the dates for the following events:
Friday 1 August: Mister Alderney 2008 election (evening event) at the Chez Bar
Saturday 2 August: Official Opening of Alderney Week at 13:00 … and that afternoon: Town Crier Competition Special KFA Anniversary Show Children’s Fancy Dress Party , including the Little Miss Alderney, Little Master Alderney and Little Miss Holiday Princess contest, plus Fun Sports and Punch & Judy Show Plus more events, yet to be finalised
….In the evening: Vin d’Honneur for all Miss Alderneys and their Maids of Honour – from 1948 to 2008 (Partners/husbands welcome) The Big Alderney Week 60’s Birthday Family BBQ, Live Music and Family Disco with dance competition And of course, a Quarry Party from late night until early morning Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Sunday 3 August: The festivities start with the wonderful ecumenical Church Service at St. Anne’s where the Alderney Blowers will be playing. Afternoon activities: highlight will be the pedal kart race and sprint
Evening: By popular demand, the a sing-along, drive-in movie on the Butes. ……Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Monday 4 August: 1:30pm Start of the Cavalcade
with amazing floats , fancy dress walkers and groups making their way from the Upper High Street down to Victoria Street and up to the Butes where a big fun fayre awaits the revellers. We expect a spectacular turn-out !
Evening: Pre-theatre picnic , followed by the open air performance of “A Winter’s Tale” by the The Rain Or Shine Theatre (also on Tuesday night)
Tuesday 5 August 10:00 Morning: Auditions for “Alderney’s Got Talent” Show Blessing of the Fishing Fleet (Inner Harbour) Children’s Inner Harbour Quiz ……..Plus other events, yet to be finalised
Afternoon: Hobby Horse Race The Magic Warthog Express experience with BBQ and magic sports competition
Evening: Pre-theatre picnic, followed by the open air performance of “A Winter’s Tale” by the The Rain Or Shine Theatre Family Quiz Night ……Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Wednesday 6 August Morning: Odd Spot Competition…. plus many more events yet to be finalised
Afternoon: Sandcastle Competition at Braye Beach This is as much about sand sculptures as sandcastles, and the competition is hot! …..Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Evening: Magic Juggling Workshop
Gala Spectacular on the Butes. This is amateur entertainment at its very best with plenty of magic. The show not to be missed.
Thursday 7 August: Morning: The Great Aurigny Duck Race followed
by The Aurigny Manpowered flight Spectacle
Afternoon: Young Pavement Artists Great Alderney Week Fun Run …….Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Evening: “Alderney’s Got Talent” ~Show for the under 16 The Alderney Blowers’ Concert with a big surprise element! ……Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Friday 8 August: Morning: Fashion Show with 60’s magic ……Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Afternoon: The Great Alderney Week Triathlon Another magical experience on board the Warhog Express …….Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Evening: The X’Factor Show for the over 16.. as seen on tele! …….Plus more events, yet to be finalised
Saturday 9 August: Morning: Man of Iron Contest Grand Alderney Week Prize Draw …….Plus other events, not yet finalised
Afternoon: The fabulous
Daft Raft Race at Braye Beach Beach Olympics Beach Boules Snooker Finals
…… and, as soon as it’s dark: start of the
Torchlight Procession from the Island Hall Gardens, up the High Street and down Victoria Street, ending up at the Butes with the Grand Fireworks Finale and live music with Ronie and Friends, to mark the last night of Alderney Week 2008.
And, as
always, there will be a Quarry Party for all those who want to dance the night
away until breakfast time!

Afternoon: 60’s Street Market and street entertainment
